Ray is Castanets. PRISM index has loved the Castanets ever since their record, “Cathedral.” He is incredibly adept at blending genres and musical styles into one cohesive and beautiful sound. His influences range from dub to traditional blues. In the not to distant future, the Castanets will release a psyched out version of a Hank Williams record. PRISM index can’t wait.
For PRISM index #1, Ray contributed a super striped-down, mellow cover version of Waylon Jennings, “I Can Get Off On You.” In the print section is an interview of Ray and others by Chris Schlarb of Create! and I Heart Lung, along with a short poem by Ray.
Memo:
Excerpt from Chris Schlarb’s “Twilight” interviews:
CS: I know you've had a number of different jobs and professions from record stores to writing to surfing. If you could occupy any profession or passion right now, regardless of economics, what would you do?
RR: I've been running my mouth about NASCAR. Maybe the most Eastern of our Western sporting activities. Samurais. The endless. The infinite. Fishing seems pretty right too. I have a thing for the prototypical 'man' works. Big ships. Wind-ravaged faces. Fast cars. Al Pacino.
