Aimee Bender writes novels and short stories. She is the author of four books: The Girl in the Flammable Skirt (1998), An Invisible Sign of My Own (2000), Willful Creatures (2005), and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake (2010). Her writing won her two Pushcart Prizes, and she was nominated for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award. She teaches creative writing at USC and the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program. She is also a senior artist at a non-profit theater workshop, “The Imagination Workshop,” whose goal is to help mentally ill and at-risk individuals produce their own plays. She is a native of Los Angeles, CA, and she lives there today.
