RIP Mark Linkous
07 Mar 2010
On March 6th Mark Linkous passed away. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” reads a statement from his family. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”

Ever since 1999's "Good Morning Spider" I have been entranced by the lush otherwordly feel of Sparklehorse's music. When I first heard and then allowed myself alone time with "It's A Wonderful Life," I truly realized the power of his universe and its transcendent power his lyrics within the soundscape. Linkous's style was entirely his own, even within his collaborations with Tom Waits, Daniel Johnston, Fennesz, and many others his manner seemed to spur new creative paths, yet retain his trail. I will truly miss his music and my love and respect goes out to his family and friends.

Joshua has been busy working on new comics, drawings, and most likely developing the best tasting soda known to man. I'm eagerly anticipating his new comic Nod Away. But currently he's been toasting the bread of March with March Hare X.

Here are a couple images.

I'm currently trapped in the Midwest finishing up the final stages of PRISM index. Packaging, sewing and so forth. The last two days have hit me with another blast of snow and cold thoughts. To beat back the Ohio depression, I've consistently found myself flipping through Mel Kadel's handmade book "Spring Lounge." Her art, color scheme, and hope manage to curb all emotions into a better place. Dreams of spring fill my heart.

Here are some of her drawings:

Jay and his brother Mark have completed their newest movie Cyrus. This will be their 3rd feature film, after Baghead(2008), and the The Puffy Chair (2005).

Their newest film stars John C. Reilly, Catherine Keener, Marisa Tomei, and Jonah Hill.

Jay contributed a self-deprecating intro for PRISM index #1.
