Tom Barndt crafts peculiar, impressionistic short films with his partner Samara St. Croix from the deserts and desserts of Las Vegas, Nevada. The duo has screened their films at AFI fest, Sundance, Cinevegas and many others. PRISM index #2 includes their 2008 short film The Clay Head. The film loosely depicts a series of unfortunate people whose lives become destructed after coming into contact with a Easter Island Clay Head. The film is heavily stylized and the narrative plays out like a skipping record. Barndt and Croix layer their images to give a density to the visuals. This mixed with their 70′s horror film influenced sound design creates a dark and mysterious tone. Like any good horror movie you will be afraid of clay heads, but love The Clay Head.
