Daniel Martinico is an artist and filmmaker living in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, and film festivals, including Machine Project, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary, Art in General (New York), VideoEx (Switzerland), Vidarte (Mexico City), and the Rotterdam and Oberhausen International Film Festivals, among others. He currently serves as visiting faculty in the Communication Department at the University of California, San Diego.

Daniel contributed a film of his from 2002, called “Infomercial Aesthetics.” It appears on PRISM index #1 DVD compilation.

“Infomercial Aesthetics”

Built entirely from the eerie debris of late night television advertising, this piece samples multiple fragments from a week’s worth of infomercials and pushes them together into a desperate video remix.

“Heads and bodies jerk back and forth under the force of video scrubbing, turning generic product testimonials into spastic robotic routines. Hucksters tweak, video toaster effects spin, cubes of Before & After samples whirl in a fury. The disparate fragments are reconstructed into something of an ultimate infomercial – a rhythmic commercial, forward driving and hypnotic, selling a dazzling product of complete nonsense.”
