David Heumann

One of the main functions of PRISM index’s multi-media platform is to give artists the ability to showcase their lesser-seen or hidden talents, especially in different mediums. Dave Heumann, the guitar virtuoso and singer behind “Arbouretum” and “Human Bell,” illustrates his more introspective side with a series of three water portraits. One is on display here and the others reside in the print version of PRISM index #1, along with a psyched out guitar track by Heumann called “Serpentes Spiralis.”

Memo:

Sleep was fitful and nightmarish. Upon awakening I am filled with a vague sense of dread, as though my nocturnal travels had found me among a band of restless spear-wielding natives who had poked, jabbed, and prodded…

Did I eat too much, too late at night?

Was my sleep affected by the air of the room itself, over-conditioned, with the constant drone of the circulating fan whose whirring blades spun three feet from my head?

Or was it Her, who throughout the evening had retreated into faraway silence, whose cheerful laugh was curiously absent, who sat beside me, wan and listless, as I fumbled uneasily with the icy remnants of my gin and tonic, speculating as to the cause of her mute, expressionless stare?
