Chriss Sutherland

For 15 years now, Chriss has been making music to soothe his soul, doing what he can to say what he needs to say. Since 1994, he’s played with the band Cerberus Shoal who has traversed many genres from avant-rock, free form jazz, drone, and pop. Over the last few years his focus has been on the Young God Records band “Fire on Fire,” which he co-founded. Through all of this, he has found time to write and record two solo albums released on Digitalis Industries and Peapod, respectively. Chriss says, “I make my own music outside of myself. Songs. Words. I'm influenced by all the life and lives around me including my own. I think music and art and its creation should be a daily endeavor minus as much BS as possible. How do I define BS? Not sure.”

Memo:

Tough task for me to write about something specific (woe, excitement or otherwise) as my life seems to operate more in larger, slow changing, wide-ranging type of moves. I'm surprised to still be living. I can remember being seven or so and praying to god (I firmly believed in the Christian god at that age) to make it to my pre-teens so that I could participate in the Junior Olympics (an event that took place in the very small rural Maine town where I grew up). I made it and participated and thankfully continued on into my teens etc. I can also remember picturing myself at 21 as that seemed to be the kind of pinnacle age I would reach. I saw myself with a mustache. So... here I am at 32 without a mustache but still with that impending feeling of doom and that my life on earth can't go on too much longer. So the fact that I’m still rolling on, making music and making mistakes just blows my little mind.
