Collaborative Fairy Tale
A collaborative fairy tale. Each illustrator is invited to provide a drawing and the next part of the story. These are just a few excerpts.
“Please, please, you may climb upon my back.” The creature bowed his long neck for the brothers to climb up whilst still being careful not to get snow in his beard.
“I am Majoram”, the orange beast smiled mystically over his shoulder, as they stomped off at a swift pace. The brothers introduced themselves and explained how they had been trying to reach the summit of the mountain.
“Oh” said Majoram, “You’ll not reach the summit now, not with the forest under Chutney’s power, it grows all over the sides of the mountain like facial hair. Only her twin…” Majoram stopped talking and an expression of concern passed over his long prickly face. All around them extraordinary and unnaturally coloured animals began to appear, watching them closely.
“I’ve never seen a squirrel like that before!” exclaimed the bearded brother giddily.
“Nor have I” whispered Majoram suspiciously, “It’s happening already…”
“As the day went on, the dust cloud grew, and eventually loomed ominously over the entire snowy valley. The boy who had taken the second of the golden coins (then ran away as fast as he could) began to feel as though he was being watched. Taking the coin from his pocket (which was strangely warm) (the coin, not his pocket) he glanced behind him and heard a whisper…”
“They made their way to the mountainʼs top. Their path was, oh, not easy, and soon they found themselves wandering into the deep forest, amid a tangle of ancient trees branches. The two explorers turned around and around for hours without finding the right way. Exhausted, the bearded man and his mate, sat down on a huge rock, right in the heart of the dark forest. By the time they were hopeless they wondered if they would ever had the chanche to find a way out. In that precise moment the Amuletʼs eye started to shine brightly arising among their stunned heads. That dazzling light made all the trees bowing as they were subjects in the presence of their King. In front of the two men a glimmer was opened, through which they could easily see the mountainʼs top. Hope wasnʼt lost. Their journey was about to begin.”
“A cave just north offered shelter for the two boys.
“Hey Jack, this is all becoming a bit overwhelming for me. I swear if we get into that cave and there are like, monkeys with robot heads, and ruby eyes that track the flights of pidgins which aid an even BIGGER monkey king like thing navigate the mountains looking for god knows what, I am going to sprint towards a cliff and not stop. “
“You’re just being dramatic…”
“No man I’m serious, what are we even doing in these mountains, we ran out of food days ago, people are going to start wondering where we are, you know dad is going to kill us right?”
Jack stops and turns sharply to his brother “Well guess what, Dad can’t kill us because dad died when our entire village was burned to the ground by the Crocodile Master, you know, the one you thought was so cool for cutting us a break with that fruit bullshit? I didn’t tell you because until now I hadn’t felt like dealing with one of your meltdowns. I’m trying to be strong for the both of us. Each other is all we have now, don’t you understand that?”
Hurley’s soft, gauzy sobs filled the dark forest air. Emotionally and physically exhausted, the two were glad to reach the cave. Upon entering, a voice boomed from the darkness. “WHO DARE ENTER RUDOLPH CHUTNEY’S LAIR!” The two stayed silent, nervous for what they have walked into. Footsteps scutter toward them and from the shadows emerged a small figure who touted a tattered gown-n-crown get up normally reserved for royalty, she extended her hand and with a smile invited them into her palace. “
