Claire Oswalt
Claire’s talent lies in her seemingly contradictory approach to fine art. She is able to render simple and elegant human forms with a beautiful reserved palette. Yet, her subjects find themselves in precarious positions and situations. Most of her work from the last few years has focused on her pieces being equipped with metal fasteners and twine similar to a marionette or cutout doll. This simple addition underlines her humor and spirit. The characters are free to move and are not restricted to a flat canvas, but rather are condemned to move in circles in absurd or lightly poignant moments, just like being caught unaware in a photograph.
