The Monks were an outrageous band. They were created as the “anti-beatles.” A group of American GI’s in the mid 60′s who formed a band in Germany and were then able to write rhythmic songs with absurdist lyrics. The band was very much “designed” as they had an iconic image to go with their sound. They all shaved Monk tonsure’s into their heads, were black, and wore ropes around their necks. Truly a band ahead of their time.
